Noted historian to speak in Lecompton about President Lincoln’s travels to Kansas

A noted scholar on President Abraham Lincoln is set to speak in Lecompton next month.
Christian McWhirter, the Lincoln historian at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield, Illinois, will be at the Territorial Capital Museum in Lecompton at 11 a.m. on Dec. 3 to present a program on Lincoln’s travels to Kansas in 1860, the purpose of his visit and what Lincoln hoped to accomplish.
McWhirter is also the author of “Battle Hymns: The Power and Popularity of Music in the Civil War.” He previously served as editor of the Journal of the Abraham Lincoln Association. His writings on Lincoln, popular music and the Civil War have appeared in numerous publications, including the New York Times and the Washington Post.
His most recent publication is a Civil War Monitor article on what Lincoln’s taste in music tells us about his worldview.
