Filmmaker John Waters and comedian Cameron Esposito, among others, will visit Lawrence next month as part of the Free State Festival.
The festival is set to deliver Act Two of its post-pandemic film celebration from April 12-16, according to a news release from the organizer. Waters, Esposito, visual artist Dario Robleto and musicians The Black Creatures are all set to appear in person that week.
Programming highlights include “False Negative,” Waters’ new comic monologue; an accessible big-screen premiere of “Aorta of an Archivist” by Robleto, accompanied by live audio description and American Sign Language interpretation; “An Evening of Oscars” celebrating the careers of Black silent film pioneer Oscar Micheaux and Lawrence filmmaker Kevin Willmott; a spotlight on Indigenous cinema; and standup comedy by Esposito.
