The John Taylor Park Incubator Garden, 200 N. Seventh St., is one of several Common Ground urban garden sites throughout Lawrence. The program is adding another garden at Broken Arrow Park.
A new garden site is set to join the list of urban gardens located throughout Lawrence as part of the Common Ground community gardening and urban agriculture program.
The new garden site at Broken Arrow Park, located at 31st and Louisiana streets, will be the 11th garden established as part of the program. Common Ground is facilitated through the Lawrence-Douglas County Sustainability Office, and the program’s new manager, Umut Bayramoglu, told the Journal-World earlier this year that the program hoped to add another garden site sometime during 2022.
The new community garden is a partnership between Common Ground and Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health and was funded through a Kansas Department of Health and Environment Chronic Disease Risk Reduction grant. The Broken Arrow Community Garden will feature two communal garden beds, two ADA-accessible beds and 10 individual plots that can be rented for a small fee. Applications for the individual plots will be first-come, first-served and accepted on a rolling basis. The garden will also allow volunteers and groups interested in working for a few hours.
