Senior Resource Center, Visiting Nurses Association to host presentation about end-of-life health care choices

Families looking for more information about their choices in end-of-life care for family members will have an opportunity to learn more at a National Healthcare Decisions Day presentation this week in Lawrence.

The Senior Resource Center for Douglas County and the Visiting Nurses Association are partnering to host a conversation about end-of-life care, including the choices that individuals have in ending medical treatment. The presentation is set for 11 a.m. Friday at the Senior Resource Center, 745 Vermont St.

Jill Craft, community outreach specialist with the Visiting Nurses Association, told the Journal-World that two of the organization’s social workers — one from hospice care, Micky Dick, and one from the association’s home health branch, Samantha Brummel — will be presenters at the event.

“Having a voice in your own health care is such an important issue — and one that the health care professionals at VNA advocate for on a regular basis,” Craft said.

Craft said every family should talk about these tough topics before there’s a health care crisis.
