This weekend’s events in and around Lawrence include holiday sales, a prom dress giveaway, Indigenous art bazaar

Looking for holiday decorations? Several local events can help you out this weekend.

On the heels of Halloween, some holiday sales and happenings are already popping up in Lawrence and the surrounding area. Here’s a look at some of those events, plus a few other weekend activities.

FRIDAY

The Holiday Open Barn will take place at the Historic Taylor Barn, 1827 East 1150 Road. More than 30 local artists will be there to help you do some shopping, and some music and hot apple cider will get you in the spirit of the season. The barn will be open Friday, 3-7 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; and Sunday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

If you’re free for lunch, the Lawrence Indian United Methodist Church, 950 E. 21st St., will host an Indian taco sale for carry-out from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Get a taco, drink and dessert combo for $8.

On Friday evening, local band Boys of the Prairie will perform an early show at Kaw Valley Public House, 444 Locust St. BOTP is a Celtic ensemble playing tunes from Ireland, Scotland, Brittany and beyond. The music starts at 5:30 p.m., with no cover charge.

SATURDAY

St. John the Evangelist Church invites you to its annual Christmas sale in the church basement, 1234 Kentucky St., on Saturday, 8 a.m.-6:30 p.m., and Sunday, 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. The sale will offer gently used decorations, gift items, trees, clothing and accessories.

The Formal Wear and Prom Dress Giveaway takes place at the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vermont St. High school students can sign up online to get an appointment on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is open to the public from 2 to 3 p.m. for a suggested donation of $5 per item. Holy-Field Vineyard and Winery is hosting a Holiday PopUp Market, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., at 18807 158th St., in Basehor, about 21 miles northeast of Lawrence. This outdoor event, featuring area vendors, is an opportunity to shop outdoors with a view of the vineyard in autumn. A canned food donation to benefit the Basehor Linwood Assistance Service BLAS Food Pantry is requested. The tasting room will also be open for gift shopping.

The Indigenous Music, Poetry & Art Bazaar, hosted by the Indigenous Community Center, begins at noon on Saturday at 137 Pawnee Ave. in Lawrence. Local Indigenous artists and artisans will have handmade items for sale, and music and poetry will be performed throughout the event. More information is available online.

In the afternoon and into the evening, Black Diamonds Ranch, 95 East 1600 Road, Baldwin City, will host its annual Barn Party on Saturday. The event, beginning at 1 p.m., is open to the public and will include food, a bonfire and an evening hayride. Bring your own lawn chair.

SUNDAY

Haskell Indian Nations University will host the 6th Annual Billy Mills 10K. The 6.2-mile run/walk follows the “Billy Mills Trail,” Haskell’s carefully maintained cross country course, safe for runners of all ability levels. A virtual option is available for those who can’t be present on race day. For more information and registration details, go online.

Don’t forget the North Lawrence Farmers’ Market, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Locally grown produce, fresh herbs, fine art, plants, baked goods and handcrafted items will be among the offerings. The market is at Riverfront Business Park, 923 N. Second St.
