A local family will appear on the “Today Show” Tuesday morning dressed as “Game of Thrones” characters and sitting on an iron throne, hoping to win votes in the program’s group Halloween contest.

Parents Angela and Scott Solomon and their sons, Jack and Andrew Solomon, are one of 16 groups chosen to participate in #MyToday Plazaween contest. The Solomon family, who live in Berryton and run Solomon & Associates in Lawrence, will be Zooming into the show live between 7 and 9 a.m. tomorrow.

Angela said she’s a daily viewer of the “Today Show” and, though she “thought it was a long shot,” decided to send in a photo of the family’s Halloween costume from 2019 as an entry to the contest. On Thursday, she got a call from an associate producer notifying her that they had been chosen.

This week, four groups will be featured virtually Monday through Thursday on the show in their costumes, and viewers will get to vote for their favorite costume of the day. The winning group of each day will then return to the show’s Halloween celebration event on Friday.

In the photo they submitted, Scott is Jon Snow, Angela is Daenerys Targaryen and Jack and Andrew are two dragons. Since Daenerys has three dragons in the show, the family stayed true to the plot and had an inflatable third dragon in the background of the photo.

Angela said they would have some brief camera time to talk about their costume and how they celebrate Halloween. To prepare for their live appearance, the family even transformed an Adirondack chair into their own iron throne.

Angela said she loved Halloween and that the family normally hosted a big party. This year, they aren’t able to throw the party because of the pandemic, so she is happy the “Today Show” appearance will bring “a little Halloween cheer in this crazy year.”
