A deer runs through Checkers Foods, 2300 Louisiana St., in a video posted this week on social media.

Shoppers at Lawrence’s Checkers grocery store recently may have left not only with a sack full of food but with quite a story to tell. A video of a deer running through the grocery store at 2300 Louisiana St. was posted to Facebook this week and has garnered much attention, as well as a few “Oh, deer” comments.

In the video, an employee behind the meat counter is restocking some food when the deer comes running down the aisle. The employee looks up, sees the deer, and continues restocking one more packet of meat before setting aside his duties and moving off screen. Two men in black shirts then appear on screen, seemingly chasing the deer. They move out of the way — in fact, one jumps on top of the nearest counter — as the deer appears again in the direction from which it came. The deer then turns and makes one last appearance running down the aisle before moving off screen.

The owner of Checkers, J.R. Lewis, confirmed that he heard a deer ran in and out of the store, but did not say when it occurred, nor offer any comments on the situation.

No injuries were reported, and one Facebook commenter said the deer eventually made its way out of the store unharmed.
