Wednesday morning storm brings nearly inch of rain to Lawrence

Rainfall Wednesday morning brought .87 inches of rain to Lawrence, according to records taken at the Lawrence Municipal Airport.

Brandon Drake, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Topeka, said that meanwhile, in northwest Missouri, some areas near Maryville saw up to eight or nine inches of rain.

The remainder of Wednesday in Lawrence is expected to be partly sunny, with a high near 81 degrees, according to the weather service. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms could return to the area Friday morning.

Drake said the total precipitation recorded at Lawrence Municipal Airport from the start of the year has been 21.54 inches, and that the normal value at this time of year is 21.57 inches. It appeared that Wednesday morning’s rainfall had not yet been included in that year-to-date total as of early afternoon.
