Lawrence police officers blocked entry to the underpass on North Second Street about 3:45 p.m. Friday after an afternoon thunderstorm.

Bryan Baerg, of the National Weather Service Office in Topeka, said 2.75 inches of rain was reported near Interstate 70 in North Lawrence from about 2:30 to 3:15 p.m. The storm moved to the east, and there is a chance of “pop-up” showers the rest of the holiday weekend, he said. Temperatures will be mild with afternoon highs topping out in the high 80s to 90.
