Two residents at Pioneer Ridge Health & Rehab tested positive for COVID-19 this week, according to the company that manages the facility.

The facility, located at 4851 Harvard Road, is a skilled nursing facility that has separate staff and residents from Pioneer Ridge’s independent and assisted living communities, said Ali Ellis, the marketing director for Midwest Health. Pioneer Ridge is one of the communities Midwest Health manages.

Because of the two positive cases, staff and residents of the health and rehab facility are currently all being tested for COVID-19. The first wave of testing should be complete by Thursday, Ellis said, and the second wave of testing will commence in about five to seven days. Ellis said every resident and staff member who tested negative in the first round of testing would be tested again in the second round.

Ellis did not provide the genders or ages of the affected residents, citing privacy concerns, but noted that both had been sent to a hospital to get checked out. One resident had already returned from the hospital, Ellis said, and management believes the other will be discharged from the hospital soon. Upon their return, both residents will be in isolation in their rooms. Ellis said she was not sure whether the hospital the residents were sent to was LMH Health.

All staff, residents and families were notified of the positive cases on Tuesday, Ellis said.

These are the first cases of COVID-19 at Pioneer Ridge, according to Ellis. One of the residents who tested positive had left the facility to receive care prior to their positive result. Ellis said it is not yet known how that resident contracted the virus, and she asked the general community to wear masks.
