Corps of Engineers to have public meeting on water levels at Clinton, Perry lakes

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will talk about the high water levels at Clinton and Perry lakes at a public informational meeting next week.

At the meeting, scheduled for 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Perry-Lecompton High School, 404 Lecompton Road in Perry, Corps personnel will discuss the elevated water levels from this spring’s heavy rains and provide a summary of how the Corps maintains dams and facilities.

The Corps announced Friday it might start releasing as much as 20,000 cubic feet of water per second from Perry Lake as the water level rose to within 3 feet of its flood level. According to the Corps’ Perry Lake Facebook page, the Corps was not releasing water at the lake as of Saturday morning.
