Douglas County clerk to discuss what to expect on upcoming ballot

Douglas County Clerk Jamie Shew is scheduled to take part in a free public event at which he’ll discuss various election-related topics, including what to expect on the upcoming ballot and the need for poll workers.

Shew was elected county clerk/county election officer in 2004 and is currently in his fourth term, according to the Douglas County website. He is originally from Missouri and has a bachelor’s degree in political science from Missouri State University and a master’s of public administration from the University of Kansas.

Shew will be the guest speaker July 8 at the Women for Kansas Lawrence/Douglas County chapter meeting. The event will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Lawrence Public Library, Room C, 707 Vermont St.

The primary election, which includes races for Lawrence City Commission and Lawrence school board, is scheduled for Aug. 1. The general election is slated for Nov. 7.

Shew is also expected to discuss the duties of folks who make sure elections run smoothly, as well as the county’s need for additional poll workers.
