Queens Road, or East 1000 Road, will be closed to through traffic from its intersection with Wakarusa Drive to Route 438 (or Farmers Turnpike, North 1800 Road), starting Monday, March 25.

The project will repair the concrete deck of the bridge carrying Queens Road over Baldwin Creek, about 1/4-mile south of North 1750 Road, according to a Douglas County news release. Public Works staff anticipates a 45-day closure of the roughly 1 1/2-mile stretch, weather permitting.

Keith Browning, the director of public works and county engineer, said in the release that the project will remove and patch areas of deteriorated concrete, plus add a concrete overlay, to extend the life of the 43-year-old bridge.

At their Feb. 20 meeting, Douglas County commissioners approved a $166,931 contract with Comanche Construction for the project, which will also include repairs on a bridge on North 1750 Road, near East 1000 Road. That repair will follow, according to the release.
