City of Lawrence snowplow Taylor Drift clears streets Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2025.
The City of Lawrence is looking to add another clever name to its snow fleet.
Last year, the name “Taylor Drift” won — out of more than 650 submissions. This year, though, the community, not a panel of city judges, will choose the name.
The contest will happen in three phases, according to a news release Monday from the city:
Phase 1: Name Submissions – From now until Oct. 26, submit your snow plow name ideas through the online form at lawrenceks.gov/snow.
• Keep it family-friendly.
• Do not use the names of city employees or city commissioners.
• Avoid repeats from last year. Taylor Drift can’t win twice.
• Bonus points for local flair and clever wordplay.
At the end of Phase 1, city staff will review all submissions and remove any that are inappropriate, offensive or duplicates.
Phase 2: Community Voting – The top name finalists will be announced on Oct. 27. Then, through Nov. 2, Lawrence residents will vote for their favorite name using the form on lawrenceks.gov/snow.
Phase 3: Winner Reveal – The city will unveil the winning name on Nov. 5 on its social media accounts.
