Taylor Drift misses marquee event due to late-arriving costume

Taylor Drift missed what may have been the biggest show of the year, but the city is hoping she’ll star in the next one.

Taylor Drift was the winning name in Lawrence’s recently held snow-plow naming contest, which attracted hundreds of entries.

The weekend’s massive storm was obviously the ideal moment for the headliner’s close-up, as nearly a foot of snow and ice made area roads temporarily impassable. However, a wardrobe issue, you might say, got in the way.

“Unfortunately, our magnet for Taylor Drift has not yet come in so she missed this winter storm,” said Maureen Brady, the brand manager for the City of Lawrence, in an email to the Journal-World. “We’re bummed about it too, but plan to have her out there if we get another snow this year!”

The magnet refers to the signage and graphics that will adorn Taylor Drift’s door to distinguish her from her backup snow plows on the wintry stage.

Brady noted that Taylor Drift has actually been dutifully plowing the last few days, but she’s been doing so incognito.
