The City of Lawrence has set the next public engagement event for a study that could help guide future development in North Lawrence.
The city will hold an open house event about the North Lawrence Corridor Study next Wednesday Dec. 10 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Venue 1235, 1235 N. Third St. The City of Lawrence is paying Kansas City-based consulting firm HNTB Corp. just under $400,000 for the study, which will analyze land use, economic development, infrastructure and transportation in North Lawrence.
During the event, the city and its consultants will review and summarize feedback regarding previous suggestions that the city had heard from a workshop event held in November. As the Journal-World reported, over 100 residents came during the meeting in November to share their ideas of what changes they would like to see in North Lawrence in the future, including safety improvements for pedestrians, more connections across the Kansas River and economic development goals like adding a grocery store.
The city said in an email shared with people who provided contact information during the last event that this open house will give residents a chance to “review the findings at their own pace and share any additional thoughts.”
Along with the open house event, the city said it will share a citywide survey that will be available from mid-December to mid-January 2026 which plans to gather “broader input about what makes North Lawrence special” and also get feedback on the community’s long term vision for the area.
