The City of Lawrence has hired a University of Kansas alumnus to serve as the city’s manager of transit and parking.
The city announced the hiring of Adam Weigel in a news release Friday. The city said it conducted a national recruitment following the departure last fall of Bob Nugent, who had served for a decade in a similar role with the city.
Weigel is currently a transportation planner with national firm Foursquare Integrated Transportation Planning, and part of his job involves working on transportation projects at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., according to the release.
He previously served as a bicycle and pedestrian coordinator in Prince William County, Va., and as the director of planning at the Topeka Metropolitan Transit Authority.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from KU in 2010, according to his online resume on LinkedIn, and he later returned to KU to earn a master’s degree in urban planning. He worked as a transportation planning intern with the Lawrence-Douglas County Metropolitan Planning Organization in 2015 and 2016 while earning his master’s, according to his resume.
Weigel is scheduled to begin his role with the city on March 23, according to the release.
