The Eudora City Commission voted last week to end its city manager’s contract, effective immediately.

The commission voted during a special meeting Friday night to end the city’s relationship with Kevyn Gero. Gero was hired as Eudora’s city manager in June 2023 after previously serving as the interim city manager, as the Journal-World reported.

Eudora Mayor Tim Reazin told the Journal-World that the commission voted to end the contract, citing only “personnel matters” as the reason. The commission held multiple special meetings last week, including one on Thursday “regarding the City Manager’s quarterly review.”

In a statement shared with the Journal-World, Reazin said the decision was “not made lightly,” but the City Commission “firmly believes this is the right long-term course of action for the City of Eudora.” Reazin also said he appreciated Gero’s contributions and wished her the best in future endeavors.

“Eudora is a vibrant and promising community, and we remain confident in the City’s direction,” Reazin said in the statement. “Our commitment to positive, purposeful growth remains unchanged, and we will continue working toward the long-term goals and vision we have set for our community.”

Reazin said Assistant City Manager Zack Daniel would assume the role as interim city manager, and the commission will review and discuss the terms of the interim appointment during its next regular meeting.

Daniel told the Journal-World he is currently serving as the acting city manager, but the city will need to take formal action to name the interim city manager. That process will be finalized over the next few days, Daniel said.

Although the change happened around the time city budgets in Kansas are first introduced, Daniel said there will be “no impact to the budget process,” with the city expecting to not stray from its timeline of adopting the final budget in late August or early September.
