The City of Lawrence will be hosting an open house to discuss a plan to use speed humps and other traffic calming devices to improve safety and reduce speeding in residential areas.
The event, which will take place on March 6 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Lawrence Public Library Auditorium at 707 Vermont St., will provide community members an opportunity to learn more about the city’s Neighborhood Traffic Management Program.
The program was first started in 2018, as the Journal-World reported. A pilot program approved by the City Commission in 2023 in the Old West Lawrence neighborhood led to the installation of 23 traffic calming devices intended to slow traffic and discourage cut-through traffic.
According to a city release, the open house will present information about the Traffic Management Program, including highlighting the usage of traffic calming devices like speed humps, chicanes and curb extensions; review and discuss areas with proposed projects for 2025 and give residents a chance to provide feedback about the plans.
More information about the Neighborhood Traffic Management Program can be found on the city’s website.
