A 35-year old Lawrence man has been charged in Douglas County District Court with three counts of rape, allegedly involving sexual intercourse with two children under the age of 14.

Jordey Michel McTaggart was charged on July 22 and was arrested and booked into the Douglas County Jail on July 30.

The Douglas County District Attorney’s Office accuses McTaggart of raping one child, who was approximately 8 years old at the time according to charging documents, on or between May 1, 2018, and Sept. 1, 2018. McTaggart is also charged with two counts of rape of another child, listed as being born in 2011, between Jan. 17, 2020, and Jan. 17, 2022.

If McTaggart is found guilty of any of the charges, he could face 25 years to life in prison.

McTaggart had his first appearance in court on July 31. His next scheduled appearance is Sept. 10 at 2 p.m. He is currently out of custody on a $25,000 cash or surety bond with GPS monitoring.
