A man was injured in west Lawrence on Saturday while attempting to sell an electronic device in the parking lot of Walmart.
According to a Facebook post by the Lawrence Police Department on Sunday, the man arrived at Walmart, 550 Congressional Drive, after arranging a sale through Facebook Marketplace. Facebook Marketplace is a platform that facilitates business deals for both individuals and businesses.
The man told officers that the sale went bad when occupants of the vehicle sped away as he handed his Apple iPad Pro to an individual in the passenger seat. The man told officers that he attempted to reach into the vehicle to retrieve the device but wound up “knocked onto his bumper, then to the ground,” as the vehicle left the scene, the post said.
Officers stopped a vehicle matching its description a short time later near 23rd Street and Naismith Drive and found “an iPad matching the description of the one allegedly stolen, along with other evidence,” the post said, adding that several juveniles were in the car. No arrests were made, but parents of the individuals in the car were called to the scene.
According to the post, the man who reported the incident suffered minor injuries, but did not require medical attention. LPD plans to submit a charging affidavit to the District Attorney’s Office.
