Ninety LHS students received academic awards Friday, Nov. 18, 2022, through VU Scholarships.
Ninety Lawrence High School seniors received a total of 1,770 scholarship offers totaling $82.75 million as part of an award ceremony at LHS on Friday.
LHS partnered with VU Scholarships this year to help provide students the various scholarship options, according to a district news release. As part of the VU program, students and their parents opt in to share their academic and demographic data with participating colleges and universities that award scholarship offers ahead of application.
Andrew Márquez, the son of VU’s inventor, told the LHS students that the collegiate athletic recruitment process inspired VU’s structure. College recruiters seek high school athletes based on performance and offer them scholarship opportunities before the student applies. VU adopted this model by partnering with more than 30 colleges and universities that match students to their academic admissions and scholarship criteria.
Principal Jessica Bassett said in the release that LHS families who have not yet authorized their students’ registration still may opt in to participate at no cost.
