The Lawrence school district has announced the hiring of Brandy Taylor as assistant principal and athletic director at Liberty Memorial Central Middle School.
Taylor, who is currently the school’s academic interventionist, will assume her new position effective July 1, pending school board approval, according to a district news release. Taylor replaces Brent Burns, who resigned after six years with LMCMS, including this year in the administrative role.
LMCMS Principal Anne Hawks said that Taylor is focused and driven and brings strong instructional leadership to the role of assistant principal. She said Taylor has worked hard to build strong relationship with students and staff.
“She models integrity for our school community and inspires positive change,” Hawks said in the release.
Taylor earned her bachelor’s at the University of Kansas and her master’s and education specialist’s degrees at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She previously taught middle school social studies and English language arts for eight years in Topeka USD 501, and joined the district in 2020 as a social studies teacher at LMCMS.
Taylor said she was excited about continuing to work on the relationships that she’s developed over the past two years with LMCMS students, staff and families.
“We look forward to focusing our attention on helping our students feel safe in the classroom and building on the lessons we’ve learned during these challenging times,” Taylor said in the release.
