Lawrence resident and former City Commission candidate Dustin Stumblingbear has filed to run for a seat on the Douglas County Commission.

Stumblingbear filed as a Democratic candidate for County Commission District No. 1 this week. Commissioner Patrick Kelly currently holds that seat, and his four-year term expires in January 2023. Stumblingbear is the first candidate to file to run for the seat. Stumblingbear ran for the Lawrence City Commission in 2017, but finished fourth in a race for three seats.

The filing deadline for the 2022 election is June 1, according to the Douglas County Elections Office 2022 Election Calendar. A primary election, if needed, would take place on Aug. 2, and the general election is Nov. 8. The Journal-World will profile all candidates as the election gets closer.
