A Missouri man has been arrested in Douglas County in connection with a 2017 home invasion in Lawrence during which one man was shot.
Jermel Fleming, 25, of Grandview, Mo., made a first appearance in Douglas County District Court on Wednesday, one day after being booked into the county jail. He is charged with one count each of aggravated robbery and aggravated battery, both felonies. He is being held in the Douglas County jail without bond, according to jail records.
According to information previously provided by police and District Attorney Charles Branson’s office, the robbery occurred around 8:45 p.m. on Dec. 20 when four people allegedly barged into the apartment of a 21-year-old man.
The man told police that he was at home with his girlfriend at the time of the break-in. Two suspects held the man and his girlfriend to the floor while two others searched the upstairs bedrooms, and at some point, one of the suspects shot the man.
The person accused of shooting him has been identified as Lawrence resident Kayshunna Poindexter, 26, who was arrested a month later, on Jan. 20, on suspicion of battery against her girlfriend. The girlfriend reportedly told police that Poindexter had been involved with three men in a recent robbery.
Poindexter was charged on Jan. 24 with one count of aggravated robbery and one count of aggravated battery. She remains jailed on $50,000 bond.
The district attorney’s office did not say Wednesday whether any of the other suspects in the case have ever been charged or are still being pursued.
Fleming’s next scheduled appearance in court will be July 11.
