Political strategist to share insights on role of women in 2016 election

A top political strategist will share insights on the role of women in this year’s elections at an appearance this week at the University of Kansas.

Celinda Lake will speak at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Woodruff Auditorium in the Kansas Union on “What Women Want: Public Opinion, the 2016 Election and Why Women Matter.” Lake is president of Lake Research Partners, a Democratic polling firm based in Washington, D.C.

According the firm’s website, Lake has a track record of helping elect female candidates and framing issues to female voters. Lake Research Partners has worked for the Democratic Governor’s Association, AFL-CIO, Communications Workers of America, Sierra Club, NARAL, Human Rights Campaign, Planned Parenthood, The Next Generation, EMILY’s List, VoteVets Action Fund, and the Kaiser Family Foundation. In 2008, she worked as a pollster for Vice President Joe Biden. She co-authored in 2005 the book “What Women Really Want with the Free Press” with Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s current campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway.

Lake’s speech is part of the Emily Taylor and Marilyn Stokstad Leadership Lecture series. A reception will follow in the union lobby after Lake’s speech.

The speech is in memory of Stokstad, who was the Judith Harris Murphy Distinguished Professor Emerita of Art History at KU, before she died in March.
