Letter: Almost governor

I stated in my letter (July 11) that John Brinkley was governor of Kansas. It should have been almost governor. He was a write-in candidate, won the popular vote, but lost when election officials tossed out enough votes with misspellings, an undotted “i” in his name, and not writing the name in the exact format set a few days before the election by Kansas officials.

That certainly gives credibility to Joseph Stalin’s cynical remark that it isn’t who votes that counts but who counts the votes.
