Letter: Library effort

To the editor:

Yes, there is yet another local library with a rapidly growing vision of what can be. It is clear that the Eudora Public Library is about to burst the seams of its tiny building in downtown Eudora. The demand for professional library services and programs is unprecedented in the library’s history!

EPL, a township library serving the Eudora Township including the City of Eudora, took a major step forward in 2011 with the acquisition of a great building site acquired through a cooperative venture with the Eudora School District and the City of Eudora.

In 2012, EPL’s small board began a step-by-step effort to improve the vision, policies, budget and staffing of the library resulting in the acquisition of a highly experienced new director, Carol Wohlford. Carol has bolstered services and programming, increased staffing and promoted awareness and cooperation within the community. And even as this letter is written, a recently reorganized Friends of the Eudora Public Library organization is planning projects to enhance volunteer and project support.

As EPL moves forward, residents and volunteers from the greater Eudora community will play a vital role in providing insight, support and specific assistance to help shape EPL beyond its current very limited space and resources during the coming years.

The board and staff of the Eudora Public Library invite the township and the greater area to share in this renewed effort. We really can create a professional library in which all residents can take ownership and pride.
