Free State High will name Shawnee Heights’ Sam Stroh as its next head boys basketball coach, according to published reports.

Free State athletic director Mike Hill told the Journal-World that he will provide more information today.

Stroh coached for two seasons at Shawnee Heights, leading the Thunderbirds to a 20-3 record last year and a spot in the Class 5A state quarterfinals, the school’s first appearance at state since 2002. Before that, he was an assistant at Blue Valley North for six seasons.

Stroh will replace Chuck Law, who announced his resignation on March 9. Law led the Firebirds to an 11-10 record last season.
