Bermel 6th at golf invite

? Free State’s Emily Bermel shot an 87 to tie for sixth place to lead all city high school entrants at the Shawnee Mission South Golf Invitational on Tuesday at Deer Creek.

The meet serves as the first round of the Sunflower League championship. In those standings, Bermel is tied for second.

Free State’s other golfers: Erin Meyers, tied for 36th (T24 in league), 112; Karen Campbell, tied for 40th (T28), 113; Anne Goebel, tied for 43rd (T31), 114; Sydney Buller, 45th (33rd), 115; and Savannah Reeb, 50th (38th), 120. As a team, the Firebirds were sixth overall, fourth in the league standings.

Lawrence High’s lone golfer, Bonnie Reinsch, shot 126 and was 52nd overall, 40th in the league.
