Letter: Kansas control

To the editor:

I’ve finally had my fill of out-of-state lobbyists, corporate money and imported campaign managers running things in Kansas. A spoils-system parade of non-Kansans to advise (run) and fill key governmental positions — really? Non-Kansans to fund and manage political campaigns in Kansas — really?

As an independent centrist voter who firmly believes in forward-moving compromises over static political limbo, I ask why two of our sitting leaders Gov. Brownback and Sen. Roberts have such strong histories of using negative politics, bait-and-switch political agendas and the importing of non-Kansans to confuse and stymie so many state and federal programs and services in Kansas. And those of the other main party are hardly any different.

I’m sure many full-time Kansans of all political persuasions are capable of handling all business, governmental and political affairs in or affecting Kansas. Simply put, Kansas government should be determined and run by full-time voting Kansans using funds, personnel and resources from Kansas — no ifs, and, or buts. It’s called self-determination. Kansans are desperate for a clear “Kansas” agenda to move the state forward, but all we get from all sides is a smaller version of nationalized ideological distraction, infighting between career politicians and partisan rhetoric! If Kansas is to have a chance to shine, it needs robust independent leaders that have a centrist, tolerant and just-get-it-done attitude.
