One man critically injured in motorcycle accident in west Lawrence

A 30-year-old man was critically injured in a single motorcycle crash at the intersection of Clinton Parkway and Lake Pointe Drive late Friday.

About 11:50 p.m., emergency responders were called to the scene of the crash, where a motorcyclist was reported lying motionless in the roadway. Portions of both roadways were closed as a LifeStar helicopter was called in to assist with emergency transport.

The motorcycle reportedly sped past several vehicles on Clinton Parkway. Those same drivers found the motorcycle lying in the roadway and the rider thrown from the motorcycle after crashing into a four foot wall in the roundabout at Lake Pointe Drive.

According to one witness, the rider was wearing a helmet as he sped along Clinton Parkway. The helmet was found approximately 20 yards from the man after the crash.

The man’s injuries were said to be critical. He was transported by helicopter to the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas.

Initial reports indicate that the rider was “extremely” intoxicated. No other vehicles were involved in the accident.

The intersection reopened shortly after 2:30 a.m. Saturday.

Lawrence Police continue to investigate the accident.
