Letter: Buyer’s remorse?

To the editor:

Having helped re-elect Sam Brownback for another four-year governor’s term through the bully pulpit of his Saturday column, Editor Dolph  C. Simons Jr. seems to be suffering from buyer’s remorse.  Simons suggests (Nov. 22) that Brownback must acknowledge the error of his fiscal ways and alter course. Simons belatedly highlights the threat posed to Kansas education funding by looming state deficits.

The “precarious position” the state finds itself in appears to be a new discovery by Mr. Simons. Three rating agencies downgraded Kansas debt well before the election. Perhaps we should be grateful that Mr. Simons’ mea culpa is better late than never. Now he needs to further demonstrate the same “unique opportunity to display leadership, courage and a deep genuine concern for the welfare of Kansas” that he wants from Sam Brownback
