For the second time in six months, Kansas University has named a new director of the University Honors Program.

Current Director Jonathan Earle was recently named dean of the Honors College at Louisiana State University, where he’ll begin work Aug. 15, KU said.

Earle began in the position in January following the retirement of Kathleen McCluskey-Fawcett, who served as director from 2009 to 2013. Earle is also an associate professor of history and has been involved in the Honors Program for most of his career at KU.

Taking Earle’s place will be Bryan Young, a KU associate professor of civil, environmental and architectural engineering, who was a finalist in the search for a successor to McCluskey-Fawcett.

Young’s father, J. Michael Young, led the Honors Program from 1990 to 1995 and Young himself went through the program, graduating in 1995. His son, Cal, is currently a KU honors student.

Young’s appointment will begin June 1.
