To the editor:

Thank you to the Journal-World for its coverage of the Free State Festival in Sunday’s paper. The insert and accompanying articles made it clear how many exciting things are planned for the five-day event. What began as a small film festival just a few years ago, has grown into a huge celebration of the arts and culture highlighting our Ninth Street corridor.

Lawrence and all it has to offer will be on display for everyone to see and enjoy, as many events are free, outside and family-friendly. This festival will be an example of what can happen when the city, private businesses, cultural institutions and Kansas University all work together to bring art, films, ideas and music to town.  The Lawrence Arts Center is delighted to play host — and I hope to see everyone downtown.
