Letter: Fireworks fan

To the editor:

Every year an article arrives before the 4th of July talking about the fireworks ban and the police department not having the resources to deal with the ban. I believe it is time for the city to discontinue this ban on fireworks usage on personal residential property.

The cost for the city fire and police departments to back this position could be supported by selling firework shooting permits. I would be wiling to pay a $5-$10 fee to shoot fireworks at my residence. The city has over 30,000 residential households. If 10 percent of them purchased this permit it would provide significant funds for extra fire and police service for one day. The city could also place a fee on firework sellers to help defer city costs.

The ban does not work, my neighborhood and the close surrounding area fills the day with fireworks sounds on the 4th of July.
