Lawrence man restrained, arrested after allegedly entering two homes

A 20-year-old Lawrence man was booked into Douglas County Jail early Friday morning on suspicion of battery, criminal trespassing and criminal damage to property.

The man, Lee James, was booked at 2 a.m. after Lawrence police responded to a call reporting multiple offenses about 1:45 a.m. in the 1200 block of Tennessee Street — not long after an allegedly intoxicated James entered a house that wasn’t his before being escorted out, said Sgt. Trent McKinley, a Lawrence Police Department spokesman.

McKinley said that after being removed from the home, James took off toward a neighboring house. Knowing that only women lived next door, the residents of the first home James entered followed him. After James allegedly kicked in the door to the women’s residence, a neighbor and a boyfriend staying at the house restrained James until officers arrived. McKinley said that James struck one of the victims as he was being restrained.

James was released from jail Friday afternoon on a $300 bond.
