Topeka man accused of killing his mother

? Police arrested a Topeka man Friday on a warrant charging him with first-degree murder in the September death of his mother.

Jason Wayne Hachmeister, 37, is accused of killing Sheila Hachmeister, 58, at her Topeka home. Authorities haven’t said how she was killed.

The Topeka Capital-Journal reported Friday that District Attorney Chad Taylor’s office charged Hachmeister with committing the murder “intentionally and with premeditation.”

Sheila Hachmeister was found dead at 5:07 p.m. Sept. 10 after an unspecified family member living in her home called police to report a medical issue.

Sheila Hachmeister was divorced and had two grown sons. She had worked since 1999 at St. Francis Health Center, initially in medical records and later as a registered health information technician in the cancer registry department.

It wasn’t immediately clear if Jason Hachmeister had obtained an attorney. A woman who answered the phone in the Shawnee County District Attorney’s Office late Friday afternoon said it was unlikely, since his arrest had happened just hours earlier.

Sheila Hachmeister’s other son, Aaron Hachmeister, is a Lawrence police officer.
