Ask a kid

To the editor:

Has anyone stopped to ask any of the kids what they think about No Child Left Behind? Now, I know that adults think that many kids are irresponsible and can’t make decisions, but a lot of us aren’t.

Did you know that it costs something like $50,000 per district for each state assessment test they give us? That comes out of the school district’s budget and not the government’s. No wonder we don’t have money to buy paper.

A system that’s federally mandated but not funded will never succeed, especially in an economy like ours. Add in the fact that this bill demands that all students in America pass all standardized testing and that only 2 percent of the student population can take the modified test, this is just a recipe for disaster. And not only will No Child Left Behind take itself down, it will take America’s school system with it.
