Shawnee County District Attorney Chad Taylor says he will not file charges in the shooting death of a man during a home invasion.

Topeka police say 49-year-old Edward Bowens was shot to death early Saturday when he broke into a neighbor’s apartment.

Taylor said in a news release Wednesday that the apartment’s tenant, 46-year-old Norman Hammond, acted in self-defense when he shot Bowens.

Police did not indicate why Bowens broke into Hammond’s apartment.
