Three Lecompton City Council incumbents — all write-ins — win re-election

Three members of the Lecompton City Council are slated to remain in office, having been re-elected Tuesday as write-in candidates by their fellow city residents.

Jimmy Wilkens, Christy Mallonee and Jennifer Smith all won in Tuesday’s general election for seats the five-member council, which also has an elected mayor. They are to be sworn in May 1 for their additional two-year terms.

Wilkens received 40 votes, Mallonee received 38, and Smith received 36. Fifty-one voters cast ballots, for a turnout rate of 13 percent.

While the election drew no official candidates, all three winners are expected to accept their municipal duties for another two years, City Clerk Sandy Nichols said.

Among other finishers: Dora Jones, 4 votes; Marsha Paslay, 2; Denzel Hackathorn, 2; Danny Sanford, 2; and Jennifer Folks, 2.
