Climate monitors

To the editor:

George Gurley’s comments in Sunday’s paper about climate change were refreshing, and a welcome relief from the constant suffering we now and in the future will endure from the oppressive heat caused by warming of the planet. How ignorant for anyone to believe that the climate cycles on Earth operate on a grand scale far outside the current data and models. Those same thoughts would lead one to believe that those stupid, now extinct, dinosaurs were actually a successful life form merely because they existed here for far longer than most humans can comprehend.

Who among us can’t trace their family tree back 500,000 years or more? I’m sure that George and I can, kinda. As Mr. Gurley’s residence is much farther south than ours it will be important to stay in touch to determine how dramatic the climate changes are at such distant points as Baldwin City and McLouth. Together we can assist Al Gore’s cause by providing honest and relevant weather data to help resubstantiate this vital economic and social prophesy.

For a small fee or grant, of course.
