Lawrence High named Kent McDonald its varsity swimming coach Friday.

“I’m pretty excited about it,” McDonald said. “This is kind of what I’ve been looking at for quite a few years.”

McDonald, who also teaches earth and space science at LHS, has served as an assistant swimming coach for two years.

“I got into it partly for the coaching,” he said, “and partly for the teaching.”

McDonald’s new role, however, creates an unique spousal situation. His wife, Annette, coaches swimming at Free State High.

“I’m kind of in a no-win situation,” McDonald, said joking. “If I win, I get in trouble. If I don’t win, I get in trouble.”
