Lawrence Police said Friday that in the past 24 hours they’d handled:

  • 402 calls
  • 25 reports
  • two burglaries
  • two thefts
  • seven noninjury accidents
  • one injury accident
  • Lawrence police arrested a 41-year-old Haskell Indian Nations University student early Friday on suspicion of aggravated battery with a knife. The arrest stemmed from a fight about 1:30 a.m. with his 46-year-old roommate at Blalock Hall. The roommate suffered minor injuries.
  • Police made two arrests Wednesday night outside the Lawrence Open Shelter, 944 Ky., and the Community Drop-In Center, 214 W. 10th St. About 6:15 p.m. they arrested a 48-year-old man on suspicion of drinking vodka in public and for yelling obscenities at a drop-in center employee; about 8:30 p.m. they arrested a 35-year-old man on suspicion of becoming belligerent when told he couldn’t enter the shelter.
  • A passenger on Kansas University’s student bus service alleged a bus driver grabbed her and later refused to let her get off the bus. The incident happened between 3:40 p.m. and 4:10 p.m. Tuesday on Jayhawk Boulevard.

Burglaries and thefts reported

  • A 20-year-old Lawrence man told police someone stole his car-stereo equipment between 8 p.m. Tuesday and 7 a.m. Wednesday in the 3400 block of Iowa Street. Total value of items stolen was $3,800.
  • A 41-year-old man and 38-year-old woman who live in the 1900 block of West Fifth Street told police someone stole jewelry and two knives worth a total of $3,330 from their home. The burglary happened between 11:50 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. Wednesday.
  • A 32-year-old Lawrence woman reported her 1999 Ford Expedition worth $17,000 stolen between 11:30 a.m. and 9:25 p.m. Tuesday from the 1000 block of East 23rd Street.
