Personal choice

To the editor:

I am going to have to agree with Shawn P. Tunink on his point that just knowing the parts of the human body is not the same as knowing about human sexuality. I am, however, going to have to disagree with him that the “fruits” of teaching human sexuality are and I quote, “promiscuity, unplanned pregnancies, divorce, STDs, abortion, confused and broken bodies.” In fact, these sexuality classes stress the need for protection while engaging in sex, thus unplanned pregnancies, STDs and abortion do not occur.

Individuals make divorce occur, not a class. Everyone human was made so that they could reproduce, so to say that sex leaves bodies broken and confused does not really make much sense. How is it possible to say that a man who took an oath of celibacy knows everything there is to know about sex? How would he know?

College is the place where adults go to start their own lives, so let them make their own choices — do not force things upon them. If they want to take the class then that is their choice, not some senator’s or anybody else’s.
