To the editor:

I am writing in response to the “Limited view” projected by Mr. Keating, a Catholic. Mr. Keating refers to the Kansas City Archdiocesan publication, The Leaven, as “propagating only one viewpoint” (Jan. 10). The Leaven is, indeed, a Catholic publication that projects the church’s viewpoint.

Mr. Keating may refuse to see the horrific practice of abortion, but the majority of Catholics do believe in the sanctity of life. The Catholic Church’s position on the abortion issue is not a “red herring” that takes the spotlight away from other pressing issues such as poverty and “exploited workers.” How can we defend those issues when we refuse to protect society’s most vulnerable: the unborn?
