Former mother-in-law gets life for murder

? A Liberty woman was sentenced Thursday to life in prison without parole for her role in the shooting death of her former son-in-law.

A Platte County jury in January convicted Brenda Williams, 47, of first-degree murder and armed criminal action in the December 2001 death of Thadd Mize, 28.

Prosecutors said Williams drove a rented van that followed Mize as he drove along a dark street on Kansas City’s north side. They said her husband, Jimmy Williams, fired several shots that killed Mize as he talked on a cell phone with his girlfriend, Jennifer Monroe.

Jimmy Williams was convicted in October and has been sentenced to life without parole. Their daughter, Chrysta Mize, who divorced the victim shortly before he was shot, is charged with conspiracy to commit murder.
