Buckle up

To the editor:

Recently, some fellow students and friends of mine were in a car wreck. They were ejected from the vehicle and were seriously injured because they were not wearing seat belts. Many people believe that wearing seat belts is not something that you need to do. They think that seat belts are uncomfortable or that they don’t need them because they’re just driving a short distance from their home. Some people are in too much of a hurry to take two seconds to put on a seat belt.

While some people think that wearing a seat belt isn’t necessary, I believe that my reasons show that wearing a seat belt is necessary. Maybe seat belts are uncomfortable, but how comfortable do you think you would be if you were thrown from your car onto the pavement? The majority of automobile accidents occur within several miles of your home. Statistics prove that seat belts save many lives. During this holiday season I want to encourage everyone to buckle up. I know you don’t want to spend the holidays in a hospital or, worse, dead. My friends and I have a saying, “Click it or die,” so please buckle up.
