A peer specialist in Lawrence is starting up a free support group for those who experience chronic pain.

Annie Ross, certified peer specialist, said she thinks the support group is needed in the community. She said clients, physicians, social workers and clergy members have told her they wish there was a group to which they could refer people.

The peer support group is not supported by any particular organization, Ross said, but LMH Health is allowing her to use one of its conference rooms for free.

“This is just a group of folks who experience specific challenges with their health who want to get together to learn and share with each other,” Ross said via email. “I am hoping to begin something that will be of benefit to the community and that I know that I have enough experience to lead.”

The chronic pain peer support group will meet from 3 to 4 p.m. on the second and fourth Mondays of the month, beginning July 8, in LMH Health conference room D-North. For more information, call 785-218-8848.
