Dennis Rider

Dennis B. Rider, 85, of Lawrence, Kansas passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at Baldwin Health and Rehab in Baldwin City, Kansas. He was born March 3, 1941 in Carmi, Illinois the son of Ollie Austin Rider and Margie Ailyne (Gaskill) Rider. Dennis graduated with the Class of 1959 from the Vinland High School in Vinland, Kansas.

Dennis served our country in the United States Navy.

He was united in marriage to Cynthia Ann Carson of August 3, 1974 in Lawrence, Kansas. They shared over fifty-one years of marriage. They enjoyed living in the Lake of the Ozarks before moving to Lawrence, Kansas.

Dennis was a Lineman for Kansas Power and Light in Lawrence, Kansas. After thirty-five years, he retired in 2000. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #309 in Lawrence, Kansas and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Union 304.

Dennis enjoyed fishing and golfing with family and friends. He will be remembered for having a good sense of humor and never knowing a stranger.

Mr. Rider was preceded in death by his parents, Ollie and Margie Rider; a sister, Ginger Lynch; five brothers, Tuck, Wendell, Larry, Tex and Wade Rider; and a granddaughter.

Surviving family includes his wife, Cynthia of the home; three daughters, Shirley Allen and husband, Eddie of Valley Falls, KS, Denise Pickens and husband, Terry of Lawrence, KS and Debbie Rider and Krista Parsons of Sterling, KS; a son, Dennis Rider Jr. and significant other, Vicki of Paola, KS; two sisters, Judy Gilliland and husband, Gary of Lawrence, KS and Maeleyne Schultz and husband, Gary of Billings, MT; a brother, Dusty Rider of Fayetteville, AR; eleven grandchildren; and seventeen great-grandchildren.

Cremation is planned. A private family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
